The concept for this mixed-use development was to develop a contemporary, thoughtful, and sustainable mixed-use development that will enrich the local area while honouring the histories of the local and Indigenous First Nations. From the beginning, our goal has been to achieve design excellence with a building that is both straightforward to construct and sensitive to its existing and future context. It aims to maximise the site’s potential, delivering a timeless, inspiring structure that excels in every regard.
Our approach focused on creating a distinctive yet inviting streetscape and public space that encourages movement through the site and draws people to the ground-floor retail areas. The design fosters a connection with the local area by modernising the Federation-era streetscapes of the adjacent conservation zone, using familiar materials, forms, and proportions in the podium streetscape. The incorporation of one-third and two-thirds scaled brick arches adds visual interest and establishes a unique sense of place, resonating with the surrounding environment. The proposal aims to generate a dynamic, vibrant streetscape and public realm that honours the historical context while enhancing the area’s liveliness
