Ascot QLD, Australia
Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star retirement community & first retirement community built on a racecourse
With a mission to deliver a retirement community that is liveable, resilient, diverse and adaptable, we used a combination of strategies that delivered a building that achieves the first 6 Star Green Star Communities rating for a retirement living community in Australia.
This was achieved through strategic positioning of the buildings to maximise cooling breezes and crossflow ventilation within the master plan. Strategies to shorten shade periods and allow solar access provided optimal liveable environments. Liveability was also addressed through walkways connecting buildings and green spaces, promoting active living in the open community.
Bernborough Ascot sets new benchmarks for retirement living projects with residents benefiting from the sustainability measures, not only in terms of driving down energy and water bills, but also improved lifestyle and health outcomes.
The overarching project vision for Bernborough Ascot seeks to embrace the history, tradition, and legacy of the Doomben Racecourse site. The aim was to create a unique and exciting, intergenerational precinct for the Brisbane Racing Club and the broader Ascot community. Set facing north over Doomben Racecourse and framed by mature fig trees. The luxury apartments offer open plan living and large balconies for entertaining. Culturally-enriching spaces including the art studio, theatre and library, sit alongside attractive gardens and greenery. There are social and dining spaces, a BBQ area and terrace, a future bowling green for friendly competition and a future health precinct comprising a pool, gym and exercise studio.
